Interview Assignment

Coming into this interview assignment what I hope to find out about Oyon are his long-term goals; I am curious to find out where he sees himself in a couple of years from now; does he see himself as an entrepreneur? a doctor?; a police officer?; a software engineer?; a teacher?; the future president of the United States?; every time I meet someone for the very first time. This is the very first question I’m always so eager to ask; I just feel like you learn a lot from a person just from that one bit of information.

The pre-interview we had during class with Oyon which was face to face went very well to the point where we didn’t have enough time to finish asking one another the rest of the questions. I noticed that when asked a question, we just had so much to talk of about, consequently that caused us to run out of time, although it was great since we both got to learn a lot about one another, it also had its cons such as having a lot of following up questions yet to be answered. I remember the first question I ever asked him was, “what are you majoring in/ or planning to major in?”; his response, “ I am currently majoring in Art, but I am planning to switch to computer science because although I love Art and its elements, I realized it’s just one of my hobbies; a true passion of mine lies within the computer science field, I want to create video games.”, I then proceeded to add on, “that is so cool, what type of video games would you like to create?”; his response, “well, there are several, but to name a few; puzzle games, adventure games, action games, strategy games, sports games, the list goes on! I would focus on creating action-adventure games since I love playing them, I think it’d be a great idea if I come up with my own. It will have multiple levels and obstacles one would have to go through to reach the end, I don’t even think it will have an end!”, with that being said we spent the entire class period discussing what his future video game would consist of.

On the other hand, the online portion where we got to ask to follow up questions as well as new questions, it was different. All of the questions being asked were answered with straight forward responses; to give an example, one of the many questions I asked Oyon through email was, “what obstacles are you currently trying to overcome?”, his response, “there are a lot of obstacles I need to overcome as soon as possible. One would be getting myself to follow a good sleep schedule since I give myself 3-4 hours of sleep. Another would be developing the right skills to be able to apply for any careers in the gaming industry, such as a designer, developer, etc. I think my biggest obstacle would be getting through college, you know what I’m talking about; the homework, projects, cramming, anything that could break anyone at their tipping point.”, with that being said, as written, Oyon had time to fully think out his response; to the point where he even sequenced it out. Not only did the online portion help in terms of letting an individual well think out their answers towards the question being asked, but it also gives the interviewer the chance to ask as many questions as they want and get straight forward answers.

In conclusion, both interviewing methods were a success, I not only got to meet an incredible human being, but I also gained a new friend. Interviewing my fellow peer Oyon, was an overall fun experience because we both got to learn a lot about one another on an emotional and intellectual level.
